Welcome to my unique website featuring paintings inspired by
my love of field-sports and working pointers. After many years
of teaching in the Midlands and working German Wirehaired Pointers
whenever time allowed, I have been lucky enough to retire to
the North-East of Scotland close to my family roots in Inverness.
We have moved house recently, just a few miles away near to Ben Aigan. Now it is time to get back into painting and dog training for the coming grouse season.
After a stunning walk to the top of Ben Rinnes in March, I am looking forward to painting the beatuiful ptarmigan again in this wonderful setting.

My time
is now divided between painting, working and training my dogs.
I enjoy using colour and the unpredictable nature and
translucent vibrancy of watercolour, suits my style of
painting best. While I can get totally engrossed in detail,
I am not interested in slavishly reproducing nature as
the camera would. Attention to detail is focused on the
animal or bird while I enjoy "letting the water do
the work" in the backgrounds.
Naturally I love to paint the wildlife
and game that I see while working my dogs in stunning
Scottish countryside. My dogs have shown me capercaillie
in the forest behind my house, grouse and ptarmigan on
moor and mountain and woodcock hidden deep in the leaf
litter.

The dogs have delighted me by pointing, sometimes in the
most unlikely places and with electrifying staunchness,
every imaginable type of game bird, mammal and miscellaneous
creature including a not so welcome adder! |
